Protected by the Imperial Japanese Court for more than 1,000 years, gagaku is the world's oldest living orchestral music. The program includes traditional pieces, as well as works by contemporary composers at the forefront of a revival of this traditional art form.

Composer's Workshop: New Music for Gagaku & Hogaku Instruments

Presenting modern compositions using classical Japanese instruments including the koto and shakuhachi, and ancient Japanese court instruments, the hichriki, ryuteki, and sho. Participants, musicians, and audience will discuss the presented works and give feedback. Free and open to the public. Priority seating is given to composers, musicians, and students.

Japanese Gagaku & Hōgaku Ensembles End of Semester Concert
